Mert’s work has always existed somewhere between structure and creativity. With a background in engineering and a long-standing interest in art and design, he approaches ideas from two different directions: understanding how things work and exploring how they could work differently.

2015 — ISTANBUL
Mert began his professional journey in engineering, with backgrounds in both Civil and Industrial Engineering. Working with complex systems, processes and real-world challenges shaped the structured and analytical way of thinking that would later become an important part of his creative work.

2018 — ISTANBUL
Alongside his engineering career, Mert began exploring tattooing. What started as a creative pursuit gradually developed into his own visual language, with a growing focus on fine lines, composition and the relationship between a design and the body.

2020 — VALENCIA
Mert`s work crossed borders for the first time. Invited by tattoo artist Sergio Guzman to Spain, I spent time tattooing at his studio in Valencia. Working in a new city and creative environment became an important step in my journey, opening the door to an increasingly international practice.

2022 — BRUSSELS
After moving to Brussels in 2022, his engineering career continued while MERTCOART entered a new chapter. His tattoo work evolved towards an anatomy-led approach centred around movement and flow. Rather than treating a tattoo as an isolated image, Mert designs with the body itself — using its natural curves, proportions and movement as part of the composition.

2026 — ANTWERP
His creative practice expanded further into the intersection of art, technology and experimentation. This led to biosignalX, a project in which EEG captures brainwaves and a custom algorithm translates those signals into Mert’s own visual design language — transforming biological data into visual expression.
